Over 70s Dating, the Personal Way

Face-to-face introductions to genuine, like-minded people in their 70s and beyond. No computers, no profiles, no strangers.

There is no age at which companionship stops mattering. Someone to share a Sunday lunch with, to go to the theatre or the coast with, to talk to at the end of the day: those things matter just as much at 74 as they did at 34, and sometimes more.

Avenues Dating is a personal, offline matchmaking service exclusively for people over 50, and we welcome members in their 70s. Everything can be done by telephone and in person. We begin with a relaxed, confidential conversation, meet and verify every member ourselves, and introduce you face to face to genuine people at a similar stage of life. There's nothing to download, nothing to type, and no pressure at any stage.

Singles Over 70: You're in Good Company

People come to us in their 70s for many reasons. Some have lost a husband or wife and, after a time, find they'd welcome someone new in their life. Some have been divorced or single for many years and have decided it's time. Some have a full diary of family, friends and interests, but miss having one particular person to share it with.

What they tend to have in common is that they know exactly what they want, and they're not interested in wasting time on anything else. They're also, quite often, people who'd never dream of putting themselves on a website.

If you've lost a partner, our page on dating for widows and widowers is written with you in mind.

Dating Websites for Over 70s, or a Personal Matchmaker?

If you've looked at dating websites for over 70s, or someone in your family has looked on your behalf, you'll know they ask a lot of you: a profile, photographs, messages from strangers, and the job of working out who's genuine. Some people manage perfectly well. Many would simply rather not.

With Avenues, it works the old-fashioned way:

You talk to a real person

Your first conversation is by telephone or in person, with a Membership Adviser who takes the time to understand you.

Someone else does the searching

Your matchmaker hand-selects each introduction with your values, interests, way of life and location in mind.

You know who you're meeting

Everyone we introduce has been personally interviewed by our team and has shown photo ID. You'll never be messaging a stranger and wondering who they really are.

You meet face to face

You hear about the person first and see a written profile, photographs are exchanged once you're both interested, and then you meet in person, somewhere comfortable and easy to reach.

Dating in Your 70s: A Few Things Worth Knowing

Whether or not you choose to use a matchmaker, these are the things that come up most often with people starting again in their 70s.

There's more than one kind of relationship.

Some couples marry or move in together. Many prefer to keep their own homes and see each other most days, or to share holidays, weekends and Sunday lunches while keeping their own routines. There's no right answer, and it's worth knowing what you'd like before you start.

Family may have views, but it's your life.

Adult children can be delighted, protective or a little uncertain. It often helps to tell them once you're ready rather than before, and to remember that the decision, and the pace, are yours.

It's sensible to keep finances separate.

Especially early on. If a relationship becomes serious, many couples take advice on wills and property so that everyone, including both families, feels settled.

Stay safe, and trust your instincts.

Never send money to someone you haven't met, however convincing the reason. Sadly, people in their 70s and 80s lose more to romance scams than any other age group. Our guide to romance and dating scams explains the warning signs.

Keep first meetings easy.

A late-morning coffee or a light lunch, somewhere familiar and easy to get to, with a friend knowing where you are. If it goes well, there's plenty of time for more.

Be yourself.

Your stories, your interests, your grandchildren, the places you've been: this is what makes you good company. The right person will want to hear about all of it.

How It Works

Find out more about how it works
  1. Step 1

    The first conversation.

A free, no-obligation chat with a Membership Adviser, by telephone or in person. This isn't a sales call; it's a conversation.

  2. Step 2

    Telling your story.

If you decide to go ahead, we create your private profile with you and complete your ID and verification. There are no forms to fill in online.

  3. Step 3

    The search.

Your dedicated matchmaker looks for compatibility across values, lifestyle, personality and what you each want from the years ahead.

  4. Step 4

    Your introduction.

You see a written profile first. The introduction goes ahead only when you both want it to.

  5. Step 5

    Ongoing support.

After each introduction we talk it through, and your feedback shapes the next search.

Questions About Dating Over 70

Am I too old to join? open/close

No. Avenues is for single people over 50, and we're glad to welcome members in their 70s and 80s. If you'd like companionship, a conversation with us is the right place to start.

I don't use a computer or a smartphone. Does that matter? open/close

Not at all. You can speak to us by telephone or in person, your introductions take place face to face, and there's nothing to download or manage online.

What's the best dating site for over 70s? open/close

There are dating sites aimed at people in their 70s, and some people use them happily. Avenues isn't one of them. We're a personal, offline matchmaking service: no public profile, nothing to browse and no messaging strangers. Every member is interviewed and ID-verified, and every introduction is chosen by a matchmaker and takes place face to face.

I don't drive any more. Can you still help? open/close

Yes. Tell your matchmaker how far you can comfortably travel and how you get about. It's one of the things they take into account when choosing your introductions.

Will I be introduced to people my own age? open/close

Age preferences are talked through in your first conversation, and an introduction goes ahead only when you're both interested. Your matchmaker looks for someone at a similar stage of life who wants the same things you do.

I'm asking on behalf of my mother or father. Can I call? open/close

Of course, and many families do. We're happy to explain how Avenues works. Membership is always your parent's own decision, though, so we'll speak with them directly before anything goes ahead.

How much does it cost? open/close

Membership is discussed openly in your free, no-obligation consultation, once we understand what you're looking for.
