The topic of happiness and being with another person is an interesting one and at times can be a topic that is somewhat polarising. In today’s modern culture, there are many single people out there. In fact, quite often in modern Western culture being single is a sign of independence, it’s a sign of courage and character. It’s a sign that you are living your own life and pursuing your own path. So it’s quite interesting to consider that there are so many single people out there now. In fact, the Office for National Statistics has recently released some data that shows 51% of people in England and Wales are single. It is an interesting trend and something that we probably wouldn’t have seen fifty years ago. It is a sign of modern culture that has changed vastly when it comes to relationships and people’s roles within each relationship in the Western world. There is also a much greater emphasis on being happy when you’re single, that you can be happy on your own and need to be. Well, of course you need to be happy on your own because if you’re not happy being by yourself then it’s unlikely you’ll have anything to offer a potential partner. Many people may wonder whether you even need a partner to make you happy. Well, you dont need a partner to make you happy but here is the kicker, life is just much more sweeter if you have someone special to share it with. We are all social creatures by default because we are human. You can be happy by yourself but many studies have shown that the happiest people are the ones with a strong social circle of friends, and are in a fulfilling, committed relationship. This is no real surprise when you consider our human nature and need to be social. So it’s important to remember that you need to be happy by yourself but being with a truly amazing person is bound to make your life experiences feel so much sweeter.
